Echo Blue Delay

Clone your own Deep Blue Delay. What's that? It's a PT2399-based digital delay with an analog direct signal path. It's a nice, natural-sounding delay with the warmth of a vintage tape echo. First repeat is clean, subsequent repeats start to darken and degrade. A great alternative to more clinical devices - this has soul

Three controls: Mix, Delay, Feedback. Keeping it real! Or keep it unreal by adding a fourth pot for 'dirt', which adds an adjustable audio feedback path in the delay signal for added filth, oscillations and runaway feeback.

Delay time is between 25 - 450ms. Feedback is from 1 to infinite with darkening and self-oscillation.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Modders Paradise 5 product stars
"As always with Fuzzdog kits, this went together beautifully and sounds great. Once upon a time I would have stopped there but now that I'm older and unwiser I wanted to break out a couple of the controls as expression jacks to control delay time and/or feedback with a exp pedal, inspired by the various kits on this site that put internal controls onto the front as an extra twistable. Highly recommended for beginners and more advanced tweakers! Get the dirt mod version, for the (almost negligible) extra work its well worth it." Aleks - 01 May 2024
Great project 5 product stars
"I built the strip board version of this, which worked but the PT2399 wouldn t always run. I tried various things but then just bought the PCB for the blue echo. It went together very easily and worked first time. It sounds great as well." Peter Nightingale - 21 January 2024
Echo Blue Delay 5 product stars
"Another magnificent Fuzzdog circuit. I love this pedal..!! I included the 'DIRT' mod (which adds adjustable audio feedback that gets a bit messy)' However, it's a great sounding echo delay with an added bonus and although I think that it don't need the fourth dial there's something and enough to satisfy anyone in this build. 100% RECOMMENED

Stunning warm repeats 5 product stars
"Well this was one of the first pedals I built so I screwed it up a bit, tip, use a good soldering iron!! But after I got it working it sounds totally beautiful. I actually removed my boss dd7 because who needs strile digital sounds when you can float in space. I use it for stonering soaring solos, dorian is your friend with this pedal. Then when it comes to some dub it can go wild making crazy effects with the dirt knob(i recommend) and repeat knob together. Shouldnt be a hard build, just use a good iron and dont rush it." Fabulous Delay 5 product stars
"5 stars for this, I bought just the pcb as I had the parts. I opted for the mod version. It is insanely great. Highly recommend. Worked first time as well." Pete - 15 August 2021
Super warm sounding delay! 4 product stars
"This was my first pedal build almost two years ago. I finished but it had super low volume, so it stayed on the shelf for many months. I decided to debug now that I have much more knowledge about electronics and troubleshooting and I found I had mismatched some caps. Swopped and it now works marvelously. I went with the dirt knob which i don't use too much as it can get too crazy. But I am using this at the end of my chain right after a couple delays, and this guy gels everything in an amazing way. It has the best analog/warm/fuzzy delay sound I have heard on a digital pedal. It just gels everything and make everything sound nice and lush. I just wish I had gone with the tails option, but I hardly ever turn it off (I play psych and trippy music), so its not a big deal and definitely." Pablo - 18 December 2020
Order the Dirt option - you won't regret it. 5 product stars
"This was my first FuzzDog build and what a lot of fun it was. I bought it to have something meditative to do and have been wanting a delay pedal for some time. I took my time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. You can't build a pedal just to have the pedal - you've got to love the journey too! I did mess up one part (I tried removing a part I'd put it wrongly and messed up the board) but I ordered new parts and was back on the trail very quickly. Oh, you should know that the customer service is top notch! Ok, back to the pedal. That dirt knob really makes this pedal a whole other beast and lots of fun. The dirty repeats sound so good. And the feedback knob can send this thing into squealing oblivion in no time! Love it. Simple to assemble and fun to play. What else do you need? By the way, when I say simple, I mean for a chap who's never soldered a PCB before. Download the help sheets on the Downloads page and you'll be golden. The hardest part is deciding what to build next... By the way, I have videos on my instagram - the_real_nick_burman. :)" Nick Burman - 27 May 2020
Great delay 5 product stars
"This is my favorite no-nonsense delay at the moment. More clarity than my analog pedals, but not sterile like my digital." awkbinoc - 08 January 2020
Delay with fuzz 4 product stars
"A neat, dirty sounding delay/echo. The dirt knob is interesting as it add drives to the delay, but careful, with the feedback/repeat nobs as they turn to squeally noise quite easily. They need to be adjusted carefully. If you turn down repeat and crank dirt you have a nifty fuzz. I would give it a 5 if the blends of dirty and feedback wasnt so erratic." Ozzie Joe - 24 March 2018
Amazing delay 5 product stars
"No idea why I thought something like this would be a good idea for a first try , never the less really fast and helpful customer service team and now I finally have the pedal working (went for the dirt mod ) sounds amazing . Nice warm and tape sounding echo will definitely be ordering some more kits !" Som - 16 February 2018
Great Delay, Awesome Seller 5 product stars
"This is a great sounding lo-fi delay. Go ahead and get the dirt add on, it's definitely worth it. It makes the delay do crazy oscillations, and can also make it act as a nice distortion pedal. I put mine in a giant 1590dd enclosure and added a modulation circuit I made. Really great for my first kit, and I use it all the time. Seller answered tons of questions I had, and was really kind. Definitely gonna order from here again, and I highly recommend this delay." Caleb - 24 January 2018

"Can you build it in a guitar as a switch on? If so does anyone have blueprints or instructions on how to do so?" James R - 12 December 2017
Awesome! 5 product stars
"I just built this for friend. Took me a couple hours, and it went smoothly. And what a great little pedal it is. I especially love the slapback. This was my third kit from you, and everyone has been perfect! Oh, and I love the new bypass switching!" Pål - 06 October 2017
Great (after a few mods) 4 product stars
"Very well designed PCB, high quality parts and good documentation as always with Fuzzdog kits. I did, however, have problems with the delays having unwanted distortion when playing with humbuckers. After a little asking around and some trial-and-error, I changed R3 to 180k and added a green LED from PT2399 pin 7 to ground (this was simple enough to do, since there is a free ground connection in the extra "repeat" holes). This took care of the distortion in my build and it's a great sounding, warm delay now. And you can also do crazy oscillations with the dirt control, which is a nice addition." "This pedal is great, but, is it possible to install a tap time on it?" Elius - 06 July 2017
Lovely warm delay 5 product stars
"This is a great sounding delay. Awesome for dub mixes.. the low fi repeats sit really well in any mix and the extra feedback mod is great for resonant oscillations for percussion. Being used more than my Watkins tape delay on snares now.. very cool!" Jamie C - 28 April 2017
Cray Delay and lovely loops 5 product stars
"I shit my pants when it didn't work, had a slice of pizza to calm down realised I put the diode in back to front, spent about an hour or so cleaning the solder out of the pads and slapped it back together, boom, done. Total pain to correct with the pot in the way needing to be de-soldered first but that is my fault above all, negative/cathode to square pad, was pretty obvious in hindsight, oh well. This thing is as crazy as my filth fack but much easier to tame as far as halting the madness, may distort a little bit if you play too hard on the wrong settings, i'm pretty sure a UFO sneaked into the circuit somewhere when I ate my pizza too because when I turned it on it sounded like I was being abducted. Celebrated with a nice piece of cola toffee stuff, all courtesy of pedal parts/Fuzz Dog, and lost an hour testing one of my guitars and my bass on the thing. Can't wait to show my friends my new toy. The only problem I have now is what should I build next?!" Dan H - 30 May 2016
Procrastination Pedal OF NOTE 5 product stars
"If you have never played with na analog like delay, I can say you don't know what you're missing. I built this pedal with the Dirt mod, which gives alot of versatility, and just plain fun!! Straightforward build, and I would recommend the daughter board, just cleans everything up on the inside. Everything I expected and then some!!" Theo - 27 May 2016
fantastic pedal, great support 5 product stars
"the pedal sounds great and fuzzdog's support is always faster than light! I've done many fuzzdog kits, all great kits. maybe the led-bezel could be better." giorgio - 22 October 2015
Echo Blue Delay 5 product stars
"Just a quick review to say that the pedal is up and running and worked first time...Due to the fact of the brilliant instructions.Soundwise cant fault it much better than the piece of junk i had before,It is now on my pedal board Thanks Fuzz Dog!!" Mark - 20 April 2015
Great Pedal, Rewarding Build 5 product stars
"Finished this pedal the other day. My 5 or 6th FuzzDog pedal I've put together. A few challenges along the way due to my poor soldering, but a quick bit of problem solving got it fixed and bundled with the powder coated enclosure provided it looks as good as it sounds. Love the sound as the delay decays away. Ten out of ten." Nathan Entwistle - 07 April 2015
Endless fun, great sounding effect. 5 product stars
"Finished this build last week, was a challenge but worth every drop of effort. I fully recommend this kit, easy to follow instructions and quality parts. I will say this though, be gentle with the IC's. I managed to snap a couple of legs in the clip and had to order in a replacement. This is no comment on the kit provided, just take extra care if like me, you are blessed with sausage fingers. On to the next build.." Alex R - 06 February 2015
Excellent Delay!!! 5 product stars
"I love this delay. First one I put together and had a blast. Incredible customer service. I was helped multiple times and he knew exactly how to correct my problems. Its sounds so incredible. I can't wait to start building another pedal." Winn - 28 January 2015
Bloody Marvellous!!!! 5 product stars
"Excellent customer service more importantly tho' Excellent pedal!!!! 1.5 hours from start to finish (if you buy any of these kits get the switch daughterboard, makes life a bucket load easier) and it worked first time out... no trouble shooting needed... The sound?... possibly the best delay I've heard in a good while... Its gone straight on the board replacing my DD3... The repeats tail off smoothly and degrade ever so slightly as they do... totally transparent as well, with the level backed all the way off you need to see the LED to know the pedal is even on... Everything from country slapback through to "why is the guitarist at the bottom of a ravine" Excellent.... Nuff said" Poopot - 21 January 2015
finished pedal great, let down by pots 3 product stars
"Why supply board mount pots when they are not to be board mounted? I was OK soldering wire to pins with no eye but many people wouldn't be. I'm also sure I would have more confidence in the joints had there been eyes. Pots with eyes would be the correct part to use. Following instructions to letter would.result in mix and feedback controls having their "max" at full counterclockwise position. I.e. backwards. Having overcome these issues the pedal is great." Charlie - 04 January 2015
Proper lo-fi, very versatile delay 5 product stars
"Not my first pedal build, but definitely by best and probably most useful so far. Pretty easy to modify too - I've since added a momentary switch for infinite repeats, and a tap tempo module (involves removing R17 and the Delay Time pot). Superb instructions and top quality bits as always" Ben - 02 July 2014
Update to my previous review 5 product stars
"I mentioned in another review that my power supply struggled to power this pedal. I was wrong - the 'lock-up' I was getting is a known 'feature' of some versions of the PT2399 chip used and nothing to do with the circuit, power supply or Poodle's kit. There's an easy fix and Poodle has updated the instructions in case your chip misbehaves. Better still, the new V2 PCB has the fix built-in. Just another example of Poodle's attention to detail and customer service." John Roberts - 26 April 2014
The Enchanted Pedal 5 product stars
"If you like your repeats meticulously prepared in sterile conditions head elsewhere. My ears tell me that Echo Blue repeats are knitted by elves and fairies - enchanting!!" Gil - 03 February 2014
Super 5 product stars
"Took delivery of the Echo Blue this morning and after a minor (self inflicted) component issue it's now built. Fantastic kit first of all. PCB is of highest quality. I also got the pre drilled enclosure which is very well done. The sound is fantastic, beautiful degradation of sound in repeats, just what I was hoping to get. Highly recommended!!!" Johan - 06 September 2013
Beautiful analogue-sounding delay 5 product stars
"This is an incredible, high quality sounding delay for a fraction of the price you'd have to pay in the shops. Plus, it's a great fun build, even for a cack-handed amateur solderer like me. Huge thanks to Lee for his tireless email support... Makes you feel like no question is too stupid" James Hamilton - 09 August 2013
Fantastic Pedal! 5 product stars
"This is an amazing delay - lovely warm tone that will do everything from 50's tape delay through to modern repeats. I'm relatively new to DIY pedals and managed this without a problem. Top service - top parts - can't wait to build the next on my list." Dan Simmonds - 25 June 2013
Fantastic delay 4 product stars
"This is a tremendous kit. It's a neat, high quality board which is easy to build up. The position of the leads for the offboard pots makes for some fiddly wiring, but I'm splitting hairs. It makes little to no excess noise. It needs a good power supply, though - my cheap one doesn't put out enough current to run the delay chip." John Roberts - 24 June 2013
OK 5 product stars
"Fast shipping awesome effetc!" mr. P - 18 June 2013
Beautiful Analogulous Delay 5 product stars
"Wow. Another brilliant kit producing a wonderful sounding delay. High, high quality. I love the 'decay' the delay introduces, it's exactly what I wanted." Rob - 11 February 2013
