Rattle Crow / Dirty Bird

This is a mad one. The Last Gasp Laboratories Rattle Crow is a 'resistive filter', which is sort of an autowah type affair, with the filter kicking in the harder the signal is thrown at it. With some fuzz too.

BUT... this kit can also give you the all-singing, all-dancing Dirty Bird, Moosapotamus' tweaked and tricked out version.

In standard form you get control over Vol, Sensitivity and Frequency (Q). Move up to the Dirty Bird and you'll get three switches to mess around with freqency range and to add general craziness to the effect. The full Moos version had another switch for Bright, but to be honest we prefered to keep the layout more useable than add another switch. We've included extra pads so you can add that switch offboard if you *really* want to.

For more on what this actually does, try the sound clips at the link above, or check out videos of the Rattle Crow. It's not an easy one to describe.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Screaming Maniac 4 product stars
"I built this to see what it would do really. Went for the Dirty Bird Version. Its pretty crazy - I'm calling mine the Screaming Maniac - its a mad screaming fuzz sound with gargly stuff added. I found that on its own it doesn't sustain very well and cuts out a bit early if you let notes ring, but when i switch on my transparent overdrive (EQD Westwood) before it, that solves the issue. I included the frequency range toggle switch, but found the sounds other than default on that pretty horrible - have only tried it on guitar though. If I was building another I would get a bigger box, and include a simple OD first (thinking maybe Fuzzdog's Cone Cranker), and not bother with the Q switch." Brendan - 08 June 2022
