HUGE Fuzz

Seems like everyone has their own take on the classic Colorsound One-Knob Fuzz, and why not? Like the Electra, the simple design offers a highly tweakable platform that responds well to small changes, making very different sounds availalbe with a little experimentation.

And that's what we have with the HUGE! - ripping fuzz tones for all your doomy needs, with the added benefit of adjustable gain.

After some experimentation of our own, we've found the trimmer offers much more versatility with a small tweak to the original circuit. It's a single jumper on existing pads on the PCB, so not a hack as such. Plus it's simple to remove if you don't like it (oh, you will).

Being a One-Knob Fuzz variant, there's nothing to stop you building any of the other versions on this PCB and having that handy adjustment on tap. Just grab the OKF doc and check out the BOMs.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls Knob is not included.

Coloursound one knob fuzz

colorsound and 66B
"past noon the control is not very usable, it seems that some values of the components values should be changed as it seems too overdriven by the guitar volume. its an easy build, i prefer the colorsound version out of the two as its less harsh and much smoother" Simone - 05 March 2020

Needs some tweaking.
"Ultimately, I've got a great sounding fuzz pedal. However, I had spend an extra hour or so tweaking. I chose the Fuzzblood build, and while the pedal sounded great, the volume was just barely at unity gain, which rendered it useless for my purposes. After checking the BOM and schematic and touching up my soldering, I couldn't get any more volume. So I ripped out the R3 resistor hoping that by changing it, I would be able to increase the volume. After installing a socket in R3 and swapping resistors (from what I had lying around) I settled on a 2.2k resistor which did increase the volume. I should note that the different resistors I tried did change the tone. If I had more expertise in electronics, I could probably explain why and how. This is the first FuzzDog build I've had where I had to go in afterwards and swap components. That said, the pedal is pretty sweet." awkbinoc - 31 January 2020

First Build (in which a noob gains basic skills)
"I picked this for my first build. For anyone else doing the same let me tell you silly mistakes! With the standard daughterboard for the footswitch, the switch goes on the reverse of the PCB as does the LED. If you're a noob like me, make sure you have desoldering braid on hand! You cant solder one handed. You need a third hand/solder station type thing. Sure, transistors are sensitive to heat. But if you're trying to de-solder some funky joint you just botched, its super easy to melt plastic wire shielding and indeed other plastic things like the power terminal! Do a little bit at a time because your ability to problem solve and solder sucks after a couple of hours. Choose the bigger enclosure for your first build, I went for the little one which was fiddly to do straight off the bat. Check your solder joints the next day, if they look bad they probably are. A multimeter helped, I found reading 5 band resistor codes confusing RE orientation. Wrote down both possibilities, confirmed with MM. Despite all these learning points, I now have a working an gnarly fuzz. The character varies as the knob goes up. It's gonna be good for cutting leads. The kit actually missed some hook-up wire for the jacks and power but I had my own, no biggie. I ordered a couple more kits and they all look correct - really looking forward to building them." Colorsound OKF & FuzzBlood
"Really nice and dirty fuzzes. The Coloursound is a bit more classic sounding. The Bloodfuzz is simply brutal and rude. Fully cranked it can almost sound like a square wave. Rolling down your guitar volume works really well to get a more old-school fuzz sound (when your guitar has two volume knobs you can go form slightly fuzzy to full on fuzz by just flipping the pickup selector switch). Ceremony and Colorsound
"Another good addition to anyones collection. I have tried a couple of these, Ceremony is very heavy and works well with detuned guitars but is not a delicate fuzz by any means. The Coloursound one got very muddy on the 6th string but lowering the value of C4 brought back the definition and lowered the gain a bit. A very usable classic sound." MrG - 30 August 2018

An absolute monster
"Best fuzz I've ever heard. Thick, weighty and dirty as hell. I've built a few kits from fuzzdog and the quality and customer service have always been great. Wicked fuzz, great build
