Yet Another Tube Screamer? Yes, there's a lot of them about.

This is another sweety with an on board charge pump gives you 18V (or thereabouts) from your 9V supply, giving you a lot more headroom to play with than you'd normally get. Loud, loud, loud.

Two clipping modes as standard, but you can opt to take the clipping diodes out altogether for a third mode - fully open boost. Louder still. Use with caution. Choose the 3-way toggle in the options for this.

Where this particular pedal shines is the clean blend. You bass players are going to love it.

DISCLAIMER - The original uses a pair of hard-to-source diodes for one of the clipping options. We aren't supplying these - sorry. Checking the data sheets there's no magic involved. Get over it. Feel free to source your own but chances are very slim of hearing any difference over the 1N4148 supplied.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Versatile overdrive where subtlety is the key
"It just so happened that I was looking for this exact circuit about a week before it appeared, so I was more than happy to jump in feet first. I specifically wanted something that would let me lightly saturate synths without going overboard into the muddy, spitty distortion that the added low end often brings. The additional headroom from the charge pump really helps to widen the scope of the gain and tone controls, so it fits the bill perfectly in this regard. And the tone control is where it shines fully anti-clockwise you get your basic unfiltered sound with a nice range of additional grit when the gain is pushed. The more it opens up, the more the high end starts to shine through whilst gently softening the bass. The three switch modes give distinct flavours and can go from clean boost to subtle saturation to dirty overdrive and everything inbetween. The switch in the third position was surprisingly fun to expermient with and filters out more of the bottom end, which would be great for taming bass-heavy synth sounds and creating more space in a mix where it might otherwise quickly sink into a swamp of mud and mush.
