FuzzPup Daddy Grace Drive/Distortion

This is part of our FuzzPup range of circuits designed for 1590A builds. Please read the general build doc available here and ensure you're happy with what's involved. They're not especially difficult, but working in a confined space can be fiddly. Take heed.

Of course there's nothing stopping you using these PCBs for 'standard' builds. They're Direct Connect compatible.

Our mini version of Run Off Groove's Grace and Big Daddy circuits - two excellent buffered power amp-based drives.

First up we have the Grace. Unlike some power amp-based designs that go all-out screaming distortion, this is tuned for a range from light break-up to vintage amp overdrive. The buffer gets rid of any loading of the guitar signal, adding sparkle and transparency. A great pick-responsive base for your dirty tone.

The Big Daddy follows the same basic lines but the input buffer is replaced with a FET gain stage, pushing the power amp stage into much heavier distortion. Just as responsive as the Grace, but the gain goes from medium break up to.... eleven!

Parts are supplied for both kits, so no need to decide right now.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Favorite Circuit So Far!
"This thing is magical if you like a more vintage breakup style overdrive. It has so much responsiveness to volume control and pick attack. The headroom is crazy and can be slightly increased when running 12v (depending on lm386 type used). I've used this to drive other pedals, as a preamp into the effects return, and as an actual small practice amp. Now to build the high gain Big Daddy version." SlothMan - 19 January 2024

A really tight fit but she screamed once it was in
"So as the tital says this and the other fuzz pups are already a tight fit, but I decided to make life perticuly difficult for myself buy replacing all but the Eluc capacitors for some really nice, old vintage PIO ones I got in a job lot of old vintage electronics. And although the increased voltage makes no difference as expected I'm positive the paper in oil caps (what are choonky AF) really make this thing sweet. Such a warm beautiful sound and perfect for most my live needs. But fittint an already big package, with some even bigger caps in it into such a tight space was a super tight fit.
