Country Crunch Drive

Don't let the name fool you. This signature pedal of a well known country slinger is so versatile it could sit on any board.

From almost clean boost, through a bit of hair, to all out screaming solo drive, this box has it all while keeping its composure (and your tonal integrity).

Your standard Volume, Gain and Tone (we'll get to that shortly) controls are augmented by a prescence switch to make it sounds as good with your Tele as it does with your LP. Add to that the three way mids switch and you have countless settings to play with.

The original uses a C25K pot for the Tone control, and try as we might we can't grab any in vertical pin format. We've spent a long time trying it with every different combo of pot value and tapering resistor, and the best workaround we've found is simply C50K with a 51K resistor across pins 1 and 3. There's still a little bunching at the extreme ends of the turn, but it's a very useable work-around. If you don't fancy that, don't buy it.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Most versatile Tubescreamer-type pedal I've ever tried 5 product stars
"If you haven't figured it out this pedal is a clone of the Paisley Drive by Wampler, which is itself a modified tubescreamer circuit. To me, this is really the most versatile Tubescreamer I've ever used without being overwhelming. You have a presence switch that interacts with the Tone knob and boosts the highs, and a three-way mids switch that either boosts mids, pulls them back or is a mix of the two. This switch is the standout addition to the tubescreamer circuit, as it allows for such an array of overdrive sounds. I haven't found a sound I didn't like to date. As it's stated in the description, the kit comes with a C50k potentiometer for the Tone control; however, I managed to acquire a C25k pot with solder lugs rather than vertical pins and simply soldered 3 wires from the board to my pot. If you're confident with a soldering iron I would say to do the same. The Tone control is key to this pedal and I wanted it to match the original spec. That isn't to fault the kit, as I really don't think there are C25k pots with vertical pins, so Fuzzdog is offering the most sensible workaround. I've had a few Tubescreamers in the past and have never really been sold on the sound, but this pedal hit the spot for me. I think it's flying under the radar on here, maybe in general, and if you're contemplating a tubescreamer build I'd really recommend this one over the other options because of it's versatility." Great pedal 5 product stars
"This was my first ever pedal build. I have no electronic knowledge but can use a soldering iron and follow a plan. No more complex than my sons Star Wars lego plans ! I have a multimeter and identified the resistor values with it , muck easier than squinting at bands although I checked them as well. Pedal worked at testing stage but not once wiring foot switch, this was my fault as i had the switch lugs 90' sideways, googled switches and worked this out. Looking at the drawing this was obvious as the lugs are oblong .Have ordered and recieved my new tri verb build and found FD to be brilliant at delivery communication etc." Steve Collop - 05 January 2017
