BrassMaster

Clone of the classic Maestro bass fuzz box. Great octave fuzz tone with plenty of control over how much dry signal gets through.

Not a cheap kit as there are some expensive parts in there that have to be sourced, but well worth it for the results.

The two switches and three pots can all be mounted straight to the PCB for minimal wiring and easy enclosure mounting. Any of them can be wired off-board if you want to do your own enclosure layout.

This new version of the kit has an ingenious (if we do say so ourselves) little daughterboard arrangement for mounting the transformer below the level of the main circuit. This gives you plenty of clearance to get the whole caboodle into a 1590BB enclosure with room to spare.

The kit is normall supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. You can opt to wire up your pots if you prefer, and the PCB will still securely mount to the enclosure with the toggle switches.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Oh myyyyy.... 5 product stars
"Firstly, RTFM and find out what the resistor marked CLR is, and where to use it. I didn't. That aside (easily rectified), this is a surprisingly straightforward build, worked first time, and sounds absolutely wonderful. Plenty of bone-crunching drive options balanced against your own clean tone. Incredibly flexible "Sensitivity" knob, you can even get mild grit or light drive if you're weak hearted. Highly recommended." Steve Torrie - 19 September 2023

"This is so nice and the sound possibilities are varied thanks to switching combinations. The blending means you can keep a solid low end to the proceedings. It's a killer fuzz and well worth building

You won't need another distortion pedal 5 product stars
"This is the one. The tone from this is great, truly exceptional, and that's true pretty much wherever the knobs are pointing. It can do an awful lot, but what it does best is HUGE fuzz with LOADS of lovely clean bassy signal coming through. One of the few bass drives I've used which can maintain proper tight definition whilst scaring the crap out of everyone. Even the person using it. The build wasn't nearly as fiddly as it looked, the pcb is laid out with plenty of space, little to be confused by. I've never used an original, and I guess I probably never will, but I don't care. This is more than brilliant." Steve - 17 June 2014
Badass! 5 product stars
"Wanted a Brassmaster for years. Now I have one! Sounds identical to one of the original units that I compared it to. Kit is very nicely made and easy to assemble, just be sure to double check your measurements for holes in your enclosure, and make sure you solder the switches in straight. The only way I'd be happier is if I had 2 of them!" James - 15 May 2014
