Little Screamer

Everyone knows the Tube Screamer, right? Well, Jack Orman stripped away the buffers and got back to basics to create the Son of Screamer. Why? Not everyone likes buffers. Tweaks available to make it more bass friendly too.

Used as the basis of many a 'boutique' pedal, we have the options for a few variations: Forever, Forever Explosion and new for 2022, the very doomy Inquisitor. The latter is hard to tame, and will squeal at higher gain and tone settings. The designer's description of the original alludes to just such behaviour, so live with it or don't bother.

The standard version is availalble with parts to make it a bit more bass-friendly.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Sweet ! 5 product stars
"Built the forever explosion. One of my fav for light/medium gain OD sound on guitar. Far more pleasing to my ears than the classic tube screamer sound." Vali - 16 December 2019
Awesome Tubescreamer Circuit 5 product stars
"As always a great PCB from Fuzz Dog, well laid out. One exception - if you're going to use LED's for clipping don't use sockets 1 & 3 as they're a bit too close together. Other than that, what can I say. You know what a Tubescreamer sounds like, this does that. Without wiring in buffers that you're going to ignore because you're wiring up the pedal true bypass, am I right?" BenMilesRocks - 29 August 2018

Forever version is bright!!! 5 product stars
"Decided to go for the "Forever Explosion" for more gain and something a little different sound than a regular tubescreamer. It's got both of those things, more gain and a more complex sound from a higher clipping threshold and slightly different equalization, less mids than a tubescreamer, but still there. One thing I did find though is that the low value tone pot makes it super bright, I had to have mine fully off to not be too bright. I'd highly recommend asking for 10K or 20K linear pot instead or in addition. I'll try put a demo on YouTube so Google for it! Fuzz Dog's service is excellent and his PCBs make it much simpler to implement the circuits, highly recommended." James - 31 March 2015
Awesome TS in a small package 4 product stars
"I've had no luck getting the 1N34A diode to work in this circuit, they're apparently very sensitive and both of the diodes I had only produced some kind of fuzzy ugly sound which led me to believe I made a mistake somewhere After taking it out and replacing it with the standard 1N4148/1N914, BAM! Spot on TS sound. It lacks nothing comparing it to a real ts808, which is surprising if you consider how much is stripped. Easy build, super neat options for clipping diodes ready on the board, holes for pcb mounted pots. What more can you ask for?" Zombie11 - 12 August 2013
