Spectre Verb

Hot! Spectre Verb

All the fun of a vintage spring reverb in a neat little package. No, it isn't spring reverb, but it does a very good job of sounding like one.

The Accutronics BTDR-2 reverb brick and the PT2399 delay chip are a match made in aural heaven, with the delay chip offering a short pre-verb attack on the wet signal. This "Attack" control can give slap-back type effects or just fill out the sound depending on how you play. It certainly adds a whole new element to the mix.

The "Dwell" pot adjusts the length of the decay, as well as how full-sounding it is. This is very subtle on the original pedal, so this kit comes with the option of going bigger with it, offering a much more obvious range to this control.

"Depth" is the intensity of the reverb.

Overall, this is a very versatile 'verb. Pair it up with your choice of brick (add that to your basket here) for whatever kind of sound you're after. Original uses "Long" for some really spacey atmosphere, but it'll work ok with Short and Medium.

Board-mounted pots and brick make this a quick, simple build.

Please choose your knobs to suit the pot shaft you select in the options. The vertical-mount pots have round shafts, so require knobs that fit with a grub/set screw. Pots are very tightly spaced (17mm apart) so take that into consideration when choosing knobs.

Note: There is a slight volume drop when this circuit is engaged. If you want to get it to unity you'll have to do some creative tweaking. It's just the way it is. Take it up with the designers of the original!

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components (not the BTDR-2), pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is only available with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Ethereal! 5 product stars
"Great sounding reverb. I built this with the recommended dwell mod. I also used sockets on R5 and found that using a 17.8k resistor in that position caused the volume not to drop when the pedal is engaged, as suggested by another reviewer. I compared this to the Levitation V2 reverb and liked the Spectre verb a bit better as it wasn t as bright and was far less noisy than the Levitation." Mark Nilson - 14/04/2018
Great reverb 4 product stars
"This reverb sounds great. For me, the dwell control doesn't do mutch, even with the mod, if you set it to high it starts in a bad sounding feedback. Also, o suggest changing R5 to 17K so you don't get volume drop. Both my negative points are for the original schematic of the pedal, so 5 stars for your kit but 4 stars for the whole package. thanks for the great work you do" Nuno Silva - 12/10/2017
Heavenly Reverb 5 product stars
"Been making a lot of FD kits and builds from bare PCB's recently. This one still relatively easy but need to take a bit more care as there is a lot to get into the box. No problems though. Follow the instructions carefully and everything just works first time - very impressed. Love the sound of this thing - could easily waste a few hours/days/weeks dreaming away with my Strat and this. And it's painted a lovely pink! (pedal not the Strat)." Nick Morgalla - 18/04/2017
Still Floating 5 product stars
"Hi, I'm still up there floating around making noise. I will tell you how awesome is the spectre reverb when I'll be back ;-)" Chuck - 11/08/2016
Ghost busting! 5 product stars
"Great pedal! Possibly a bit more challenging than some of the builds here. It's a tight fit in the case... But geez it sounds good. Really natural haunting verb. It goes from subtle to its own unique form of chaos/ambience (with dwell knob mod). I had loads of fun putting it together - clever design of the pcb and good layout to get everything in that box! Highly recommended." Greg - 03/07/2015
I have built Brian Eno! 5 product stars
"Built the modded version, long brick and BOOM! Instant spaceship! It will swell into self oscillation and drone like something out of a BBC Radiophonic Workshop engineer fever nightmare. Very ambient, dreamy and trippy when settings are maxed. When rolled back it will do surf, twang and sound very sweet and tone-enhancing. Very versatile, covers a lot of ground for 3 knobs and a small box." Tjærand - 28/02/2015
