Tube Screamer TS808 / TS9

All-time classic overdrive circuit. Love it or hate it, you can't ignore it. Thoroughly ripped off time and time again for 'boutique' pedals - it must be doing something right.

Kit comes with the parts to make a TS808 or TS9.

Extra pads to allow standard symetrical or optional asymetrical clipping.

Optional board-mounted SPDT toggle switch for a 'more bass' mod. This can be ON-ON for one extra setting, or ON-OFF-ON for two.

Supplied with the correct W-taper tone pot.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. The pads for Volume and Gain have two positions, so your controls are in optimum position whether you're using the optional toggle switch or not.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Amazing! 5 product stars
"I built this kit around 18months ago. Ever since building the TS808 it hasn't left my pedal board. The kit and pcb design from FD is honestly one of the best around. This pedal gets all the lovely SRV stuff and also does a lovely job at some John Petrucci tones. From my research of the TS808 FD nailed it. They removed the soft transistor bases switching system that the original used in place of a true bypass. A much better option." Olli - 25 December 2022

"BUILT THIS ONE RAINY AFTERNOON . IT ALL WENT TOGETHER WELL NO REAL PROBLEMBS . WAS A BIT OF A TIGHT FIT IN THE ENCLOSURE AND HAD TO FIDDLE THE ORIENTATION OF THE JACK SOCKETS , BUT SOON HAD IT WORKING . IT SOUNDS GREAT . JUST A NOTE , ONE OF THE OTHER BUILDERS COMMENTED ON THE NOISE WHEN NOT USING A 9V SUPPLY . IVE FOUND THIS QUITE COMMON I THINK ITS DOWN TO THE QUALITY OF THE 9V ADAPTER ." alan walker - 14 September 2021
Brilliant pedal, sounds great. 5 product stars
"I built this a few months ago, and found that it didn't work. A neighbour of mine offered help recently, and had it working very quickly. Apparently, there was a connection missing through the hole. I realised after a while that I had drilled the hole out to get rid of some solder and had stupidly got rid of the connection. It works now, after reconnecting the two sides of the board together. Sounds great as well, now I need to work on my playing." Alec - 18 January 2021

high quality diy pedal! 4 product stars
"say hello from Japan. It's so nice and easy to build with daughter board. In Japan there are some shops who sell diy fx kit but non of them superior than this. Really nice." taku319 - 29 March 2020
Tube Screamer with added Buzz 4 product stars
"This is the second kit pedal I have put together, and from what I can hear its seems to be working fine. However powered externally with a 9V wall-wart from Thomann, the unit introduces some chirpy buzzing noise, which I did not expect. The Tone and Volume controls work as expected and with lower Drive setting that noise is almost inaudible. I happen to have a real Ibanez Mini Tube-screamer which does not mind the external power, so I suppose a solid state switching power supply is not really compatible with this circuitry. None of these drawbacks are apparent when powering the unit form a 9V block battery. Apart from that, it does what it should. The build was easy enough and the instructions well laid out. One note on the packaging though: As all components were sort of thrown in the same bag, some identification work needed to be done first. A magnifying glass, good lighting and a multimeter to identify all the different resistances is essential and obligatory. Maybe labeling at least the resistors would have been a great help. To add to the instructions would be a note on the sequence of what components to solder in first and in which order. Generally, I suppose, I would go for structures, resistance, capacitance, then all things silicon based and placing the ICs their sockets last. In comparison with the OD1 kit from a Chinese ebay store there were differences in the way the kit was presented, mainly the Chinese kit came with one A4 sheet of very sparse but clear visual instructions and a box lacking the holes for the pots, jack sockets and switches. The OD1 main foot switch is part of the PCB and does not include a daughter board. By the way, the TS808 DB is a very clever idea. Just make sure your read all of its instructions first before heating up your iron. All in all I am happy with my purchase and soldering and would recommend this kit to my guitar pals..." Great sounding pedal 5 product stars
"Built this over the course of a couple of days when I got the time. It's a doddle to do though. The instructions and layout are great and as long as you follow them you'll have it done no probs. I had a quiet while building and the support was super fast from FuzzDog. I'll definitely be back for another. Sound is great. I built it to ts808 specs and played through an orange rockerverb it sounded great and pushed the amp nicely." Elbeeuk - 23 June 2017
Amazing 5 product stars
"I've never owned a real Tubescreamer before but I've always wanted one. Get the feeling this pedal is going to be firmly stuck to my pedalboard for a very long time...at least till my amateur soldering comes undone! Nice easy build, great fun to make and so rewarding when finished. Sounds amazing!" Jimmy - 04 June 2015
Must have pedal 5 product stars
"Just finished assembling. Pretty easy to build, but the housing is just a bit too small to fit in a 9v battery, but is not an issue. As I have some previous experience of soldering such like devices I did all work in one 'shot'. And it worked straight away. Amazing thick, smooth, creamy and really screaming sound even from single coil pickups. It sounds amazing either on tube or solid state amps. For it's price it is from category "must have". Thanks guys for excellent kit!" Robert - 31 January 2015
Fifth build, and most rewarding! 5 product stars
"I'm new to electronics, but prior to this pedal I have built two Bazz Fuzz from this site, and two CMOY headphone amps. The relative complexity of this circuit, and the tightness of space in the enclosure from the larger PCB made for a more difficult build, but I took my time and 4 hours later I had a working TS808 10 more hours later and the paint on my enclosure had dried and I'd soldered in the final wiring - and I was ready to find out what all the fuss is about this overdrive. To keep it simple - I love it. It breaks up smoothly, lets me hear all the notes I'm playing without sounding like mush. It's very pleasant used as a boost to my amp's distortion, or used over a clean amp to add grit. I've previously used only distortion pedals (Boss DS-1 and MT-2 mostly) but as I've entered my mid-30s my tastes have mellowed, and this has solved my search for a more usable tone. I look forward to playing with it with various options around the pedals I own!" Ash - 11 November 2014
Nicely Done 5 product stars
"Very impressed with the quality of this kit. Nicely laid out double-sided PCB with ground plane and quality components would have made this a "worked first time" build had I bothered to read the note about linking the Accent pins! I'm used to building and modifying audio gear and considered making this from scratch, but the pre-made PCB and pre-punched enclosure made it much less hassle and, if I'm honest, hardly any more expensive. If only I was as handy with the guitar as I am with a soldering iron!" Chris Hales - 07 November 2014
Rewarding build 5 product stars
"I had never used a soldering iron or gone near any electrical components until this build but I managed to complete the build and learn useful information. It was not as easy as some reviews suggested but I love using a pedal that I built! I will be doing more and it has gotten me thinking about building my own." Matthew McGeechan - 12 August 2014
Super tone 5 product stars
"Great pedal. Just the perfect tone, much nicer than a digital effects unit. Quite easy to build - haven't touched a soldering iron for many years but no problems if you're patient! Good support for the couple of questions I had! For the money, you can't go wrong." Iain - 24 February 2013
Superb 5 product stars
"Great kit, excellent lay out and easy to build. Sounds superb, very happy and will be back for more soon!" David - 14 January 2013
High Quality, Low Noise Success 5 product stars
"Granted, this is not my first build as I have a degree in electronics and have been modding pedals for years. I wanted a Tube Screamer clone with flexibility and options and this one delivered. High quality components, straight fwd instructions and great results. I will be ordering another kit soon!" JCM - 18 November 2012
