Filth Fack! - Crazy Germanium Fuzz

Take a Fuzz Face, mess around on the bench, add some pots and a sprinkling of crazy dust and you have this beast.

Classic, noisy five-knobbed fuzz box with stability, compression, gate, drive and volume controls. The fuzz comes from a pair of specially selected germanium cans which can produce tame, soothing fuzz tones or veer off into wild oscillations and gated madness with the twist of a knob or two.

Most builds have fiddly off-board pot wiring. This board has connection points for all lugs of all pots. The fiddly work is all done in the copper traces. Sanity maintained.

This version of the kit has WIRED pots - useful if you want to do your own control layout or install in a guitar. A board-mounted pot version is also available for a quicker, neater build.

The enclosure option for this version will take a battery, pot spacing of 20mm - please take that into account when choosing knobs.

Kit includes: PCB, all components, hook-up wire, 3PDT footswitch for true bypass, high quality jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, LED. Enclosure (pre-drilled) is optional and will take a battery. Does not include knobs.

Difficulty: Medium

PCB size: 40 x 23mm

Knobs required: 5

Enclosure: 1590B

If you want the kit pre-built you must add the enclosure option below and select your knobs in the Components section. Check Specials for powder-coated enclosure availability.

"Excellent value and very professional. The finished pedal offers many hours of not-so-innocent pleasure when built. I recommend buying the case. It's tight in there but it all fits and I couldn't make a box that good. The board worked first time when trialled without the switch. However, I spent some time with the meter trying to get it to work in the box with the wired switch etc until I realised that I had transposed the input and output leads from the board when I wired the switch!" Sweet! 5 product stars
"Ace kit. Poodle takes the pain out of DIY!!No spending hours trying to figure out what components to order (and invariably getting at least one wrong). No oval shaped drill holes. Just a great pedal and sweet sweet fuzz!" Azoora - 07/21/2012
Great kit 5 product stars
"Excellent service and quick delivery, kit worked perfectly first time, a great chance to own an expensive pedal for cheap! Wish i'd discovered this website earlier to be honest.Cheers" Dave - 06/14/2012

"Second kit i've had from Poodle (see also fuzz face review)... I completed this very recently in a matter of hours. I've never used a Zvex nor had I heard the possible sounds so I didn't know what to expect, but true to the claims, this little kit recreates all the sounds that are available from the real deal. Excellent fuzz parameters coupled with all those controllable synthesised squeals and howls.Very highly recommended kit and for the price (especially considering that the position of the pre-drilled holes are crucial for fitting all components neatly inside), the box is an absolute godsend... Buy. Build. Buzz." Greg Wagner - 06/06/2012

"A fantastic little kit which arrived the next day very neatly packaged. Great fun to build and even more fun to use! Had a few teething problems which were all down to me but Mr Poodle kindly provided some excellent and clear email support - basically I didn't link all the grounds - Doh! All in all great value for money and fuzz to die for - Buy one!" Chris Pearce - 04/28/2012
Amazing 5 product stars
"Such a great kit, for about 1/5th of the cost of a zvex. Works exactly the same, I have just wired this up and installed it into a guitar and it works and sounds perfect. Will be back for more!" Richard - 03/04/2012

"Another great kit. Superb quality PCB, good parts and instructions. Follow Mr. Poodles advice, and do not socket the transistors - I socketed mine, and could not get the lid on the enclosure as they sat too high off the board. Fortunately the board is top quality, so the extra heating involved in removing the sockets and soldering the transistors back in place caused no problems. I opted for a pre-drilled enclosure, and again the drilling was accurate and very well done. I can't recommend these kits highly enough." Mark - 03/01/2012
