Tube Bender

A wonderful (and very scarce) drive from a designer with quite a pedigree.

Originally conceived as a DIY project for Guitar Magazine, but built commercially soon after, this beauty is described as a tonal hybrid of a Tube Screamer and a Tone Bender. That's not far off the mark. Supposedly the main dirt all over Snow Patrol's 'Eyes Open' album, which is no bad thing.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. The original only had a two-position Tone Shift control, whereas this kit has a three-position. If you want to limit your options add a note at checkout and we'll give you a different toggle switch, but really - don't!

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Love this pedal! 5 product stars
"I bought the original kit from Guitar magazine back in 2002. I loved the tone but it soon broke because of my horrible soldering. Fast forward 20 years (what?!?) and I saw it on the Fuzzdog website. I've just built it, and it sounds exactly the same as it did back then, except this time there's no crackle and it's perfect. There are a lot of great tones in this pedal, and yes, it's somewhere in between an overdrive and a fuzz. It has a lovely texture and quite a clear, open tone. I prefer the switch in the middle position, which I believe is the original magazine version. With Humbuckers through my Hot Rod Deluxe I'm getting some Paul Kossoff with the gain low, Mick Ronson with the gain up, and Jimi rhythm tone with a strat and the volume down on the guitar. It's a slightly rawer guitar sound than some modern pedals, definitely 70s rather than 80s. Really glad I built this one!" Jonny Race - 28 March 2022
