TriVibe

RunOffGroove rarely disappoint, and this modulation box is no exception.

Seeing a lack of DIY projects for true vibrato they set out to fill that gap, and a fine job they made of it too, using readily available components that don't require any fiddly matching, biasing, fairy dust or hammers to get working. The project page linked above is well worth a read.

Two simple controls - Rate and Depth. Three modes - Vibe (take a guess!), Swirl (mild two-stage phasing) and Whirl (somewhere in between, rotary speaker-ish), should give you enough variation to make the fairly large build worthwhile.

We've managed to keep the whole thing withing a 5cm square PCB so it'll easily fit into a 1590B enclosure. There are six resistors on the back side of the board to achieve this footprint, but why not eh?

There's also an optional rate indicator LED for those of you who like flashy things.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

A cracking little project 5 product stars
"I needed to build a couple of Tri-Vibes for a friend's birthday. I left the project a bit late, so bought the un populated PCBs from here. Nice quality PCBs, and reasonably easy to populate. The guys who complain about "Tone Suck" and "Kinda Weak" have obviously built their 'Vibes incorrectly or are loons who believe that the colour of their guitar cords determines their tone! If you use a DPDT (or TPDT) switch for proper bypass as shown in the recommended wiring diagram, the board is COMPLETELY ISOLATED from the audio path, so can't have any effect whatsoever on the bypassed signal. My builds have multi-coloured (RGB) LEDs for indication, with each mode of the toggle switch indicated by a different colour. The "rate" LED is also an RGB type, and red and green are used to indicate "On" and "Bypass", with the blue part pulsing at the LFO rate! It's very pretty! In use, the effects are quite pronounced, especially at faster LFO rates. There are two small changes I'd make - add 3M3 from the input side of C1 to ground to eliminate switching clicks, and add a 10k resistor in series with C1 to protect the input of the op-amp. Neither modification will affect the operation of the circuit, but will improve functionality and reliability. Recommended!" Chris the Mictester - 01 January 2019
Kinda Weak 3 product stars
"kit works great including the rate LED, but as a vibrato its pretty weak sounding. The modulation isn't very deep at all, which is good for a subtle effect but not when you want something a bit more." Benjamin Storm - 30 May 2018
nothing special. 3 product stars
"it's a vibrato pedal. sounds good. if the pots on the BOM are used the controls on both rate and depth are bunched up full clockwise. could use a volume pot but all in all nice little trem pedal with three modes." jacobre - 02 May 2018
Volume & Tone Suck 1 product stars
"10th build from Fuzz, serious volume and tone suck - from google and RoG, build is known for this, Depth clicks when turned to full , and when turn on volume drops. disappointing" Weak Vibe - 11 June 2017
good vibes 5 product stars
"Great layout as usual. Awesome circuit! Every mode is a lot of fun to play. I needed a good vibrato and I found way more with this pedal. Thanks Dog!!" Chuck - 15 May 2017
Great Pedal 5 product stars
"My second build, I think I am getting addicted to the process I find it very thereputic. This pedal sounds amazing the three modes are versatile, some youtube vids give you the sounds which are hard to describe, I initially cocked up by putting the pots the wrong way round and found the description of the LED placements slightly confusing as the rate can be on the daughter board or the main.FD brilliant with help and patient with my emails, now looking at the next build Trem maybe."
