Range Master Plus Si/Ge

Everyone loves a Range Master, right? That gritty treble push is real sweet.

How about a bunch of Range Masters in one little box? Well, technically two - one silicon, one germanium - but with an external bias control the world is your tonal oyster. What's more, this babe is all NPN/Negative Ground so will play nicely on your chain, no messing.

Everything board-mounted for super-simple build and solid seating in the enclosure.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Can you swap the range switch with a tone pot? 4 product stars
"If you can swap the 'range' switch with a tone pot, I buy 10 of them!" Ozzie Battla - 13 May 2021
Magic! 5 product stars
"Already had a Ge Rangemaster that I've built from a kit supplied by a big German kit provider. That Rangemaster came with fixed resistors (no way to bias its transistor), a less than stellar transistor, and a 3-way toggle switch which provides two mids settings similar to this one and an extremely thin-sounding (to me unusable) one (I guess to be historically correct). Fast forward to this kit, it has eliminated the unusable mids (ice-pick thin) setting, it's got both Si and Ge trannies (and what a glorious sound the Si one makes, I used to be a Rangemaster puris - Ge for me, thank you - but not anymore), it's got a very useful external bias control, but more than that, it's got life and sparkle. My older Rangemaster's been left in the dust, it sounds lifeless and dull in comparison (and I was liking that one too!). This build has got to be my favourite of the batch I've ordered (and I bought 6 kits), and I didn't even expect it. I've built it last and when time came to plug in and see what's what I found myself lost in listening to how glorious each note sounded for an hour, grinning like an idiot. That's the magic test right there. Get this kit. If you've never tried a (good) Rangemaster you've not lived a full life as a guitar player." Razvan Cojocaru - 08 May 2021
Amazing and easy to build 5 product stars
"Ok, this is a super easy build. It has so few components you can go off the picture when placing. To add balance to the other review, the dude is missing the point of a TB. It is designed to go into an already cooking amp, not a clean one. There is plenty of gain on offer here. To entirely honest the bias doesn t change the sound a great deal. I have simply marked out where 7v is so I know it s as should be this is a different place for each transistor." Matt - 07 December 2019
Range Master Plus 4 product stars
"This is a really easy build. The only pedal I have to compare this to is the HBE Germania, which is supposed to be based on the Rangemaster circuit. Surprisingly this pedal is clean -at least compared to the HBE. The HBE breaks up and has a lot more saturation at lower settings. I was hoping this pedal would do the same, but the sound is very clean and punchy even with the boost maxed. Adjusting the bias on the germanium setting, I can some sputtery sounds. I definitely wouldn't use this as an 'always-on' preamp pedal as it colors the original signal a great deal; however I've only used it on a clean amp and haven't used it to push an already overdriven amp. I could see this pedal being very useful for guitar solos. I've placed it in front of a Big Muff and was able to get some great results." awkbinoc - 15 November 2019
