Joy Drive

There's always room for more Dumble-in-a-Box pedals, and this one is rather nice, offering a higher gain range than some others.

The tone section of this one is pretty sweet, with your standard Tone combined with a Bass control - the range available is huge, and they affect the response of the circuit rather than just the sound. Really interactive. You could spend a whole day tweaking.

Three-way switch to control the clipping as one level of grit is never enough.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Use a 20K pot for the bass control 5 product stars
"After my third joy drive build, I wanted to add something else to my previous review. I'd highly recommend using a 20K pot for the bass control. With the stock 10K I found when the bass is control is fully counter clockwise it's "neutral" and you can only add bass/fuzz not cut. If you want to be able to cut a little bass a 20K pot allows you to do this, but still keep all the same tones when increased passed 12 o'clock." James - 10 January 2016
In a state of Euphoria 5 product stars
"I watched a few reviews of the pedal this is based on and was really impressed so thought I would give the kit a try. This is my second kit from Fuzz dog and was a straight forward build. The hardest part is making the enclosure look good. I use photoshop to make a design and then print on to inkjet decal paper and get pretty good results. As to the pedal, fantastic. It is like having three seperate pedals at the flick of the mini toggle all of which very impressive. The only problem is it makes a few of my other pedals sound lack lustre in comparison but only because this is so good, very transparant and dynamic. If you are not sure about getting one of these just get one you will not be disappointed." Mick - 17 June 2015
Amazingly versatile overdrive 5 product stars
"I was looking for something more "transparent" to pair with a tube screamer style circuit. The Joy Drive did not disappoint. Very open sound in all three clipping modes. 1) Smooth is little pushed with soft clipping diodes. 2) Open is opamp clipping only and can be used as a clean boost and 3) Crunch diodes in the feedback loop. Crunch is my favorite, not really crunchy, a little Timmy like and feels the easiest mode to play through. The tone control is very useable. The bass control can only be used a little to add more bass after about 9 o'clock it (by design) adds fuzz to the tone and can do a good Eric Johnson style tone. Even with tone and bass controls, it can't really be used for a mid boost or tubescreamer type sound. Cutting the trebble makes it too wooly and the bass control can't be use to cut bass that much. However you still get 3 overdrive voicings, a clean boost and a fuzz, making this an amazingly versatile pedal. I'll try put a demo on YouTube so Google for it! Fuzz Dog's service is excellent and his PCBs make it much simpler to implement the circuits, highly recommended." James - 31 March 2015
