Ocean Engine Chorus

Six knobs of swooshy, sublime chorus.

PT2399-based chorus with a huge range of wobbles available.

Controls are:

  • Rate - kinda obvious.
  • Shape - alters the LFO waveform.
  • Depth - how much you want the LFO to hit the delay causing modulation.
  • Intensity - effect/dry signal balance.
  • Dimension - length of delay. Just a little... or metric shed loads.
  • Animate - change your subtle chorus into a world of madness.

So much fun in a little 1590B box.

The board has been designed for 3mm resistors. Beware - these are tiny, fiddly and the codes are difficult to read, though the neat results are worth the effort. We can supply 6mm resistors if you're happy to stand them upright on the PCB.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. We recommend 1900H knobs as the pot spacing is a tight 17.5mm.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Fantastic Chorus with amazingly wide variety of sounds 5 product stars
"There is one guy who said it sounds like a reverb more than a chorus, and that s what mine sounded like for the first time when I fired it up. After doing some inspection, I fixed my error and it unlocked the chorus beauty of this pedal. This one is on my personal pedal board!" Adrian Amador - 22 September 2022
Sounds More Like a Reverb 2 product stars
"I got it working after replacing the TL074. But it sounds mostly like a reverb. All the controls do something but not what's expected. Just ruend it back on and it does nothing at all." Bob Davis - 13 July 2021
Update to my previous review: Problem fixed 4 product stars
"Update on my previous review. Lee managed to find the problem I had and it has been fixed in the layout now. Great! I still had a problem with the rate being ridiculously fast for most of the pot rotation, so as per the forum posts referred to in the review below, I changed C19 to a larger 4u7 cap. This slowed down the rate too! Now there is a slight background hiss in the modulated signal, but that might be due to the cheap MLCC I used for the 4u7. This has been more work than expected, but now I can finally get a good usable chorus out of the pedal." Juho - 12 February 2021
Feedback was previous two comments 5 product stars
"Hi Juho and Pablo, i also experienced the effect as what you've mentioned and checking on some of the forums, there were suggestions to change the C19 capacitor from 470 nf to a 4.7 uf Bipolar Electro (NP) cap, and i changed it to this value on the circuit and to me it is an improvement to the level of modulation for this circuit. Also when maxing out the dimension pot i don't get feedback/Whine on the sound. Please check out the forums and check what others have comments on this, and give it a try." Vivek - 11 November 2020
Having the same problem as Pablo 2 product stars
"I built the kit, paying extra special attention every step of the way, and I have the same problem as the previous reviewer (Pablo - 06 October 2020). I cannot get it to sound and act similar to the demos and most settings are just useless or the effect nearly audible. It can get really crazy or just barely altering the signal. But nothing good in between and does not sound like the demos. I was wondering whether the PT2399 might be bad, since I've heard they can be pretty finicky and the quality varies between chips. Don't get me wrong, the PCB is very well laid out and high quality, as well as all the parts, enclosure etc. (I have built multiple Fuzzdog kits along the years - always very high quality), but there is just something off here. Otherwise this would easily be five stars. I would like a confirmation whether other's have encountered the same problem too." Juho Suokas - 14 October 2020
Not sure if its working as expected 4 product stars
"Nice and smooth built, but I am not sure if mine is acting as it should. When setting the shape knob to minimum (this should be triangle wave, right?) there is no effect at all. I have tried comparing settings with audio demos from the original design and they sound different. Its stil, a great vibrato/wobbyl/chorus hybrid nonetheless. But would love to compare settings with other builders to check if mine is fully operational" Pablo - 06 October 2020
Challenging Build and great sound 5 product stars
"A Challenging build but great end result. Interesting sounds can be achieved from this pedal. One tip which i found helpful, before soldering in the Pots, i drilled the holes and fitted the Pots to the holes and then mounted the board, getting it level with the pots. Only then did i solder in the pots. Makes it easier to ensure the pots are sitting vertical and not stressing the board once they are tightened against the enclosure." Vivek - 30 September 2020
Worth the effort! 5 product stars
"I sure breathed a big sigh of relief when this complex little creature worked first time... it's tight inside that 1590B but it is well worth the effort as this is an excellent chorus with the Dimension and Animation features lifting it well out of the ordinary. A really great little pedal." jayjay - 27 February 2020
Amazing pedal, great instructions and service 5 product stars
"This was my first kit from Fuzzdogs pedal parts and second ever pedal I have built. The delivery was fast and after a couple of small issues which got resolved very quickly by the team I started building right away. The instructions are detailed and easy to understand, and after a few hours of building and testing the pedal turned out great, sounds amazing and makes no unwanted noise at all! Will definitely buy here again and recommend to friends." Tobias Raven - 14 November 2019
Crazy Versatile Chorus 5 product stars
"My second Fuzzdog build! Great kit, assembly went down smoothly and it worked on first try. Does everything from cheesy to annoying, the latter especially with the delay above 9 o'clock. I never liked chorus sounds before, now I do. Cheers!" Isaas Neutron - 10 March 2019
