If you're going for GORVA switches please select the right amount in the drop down option. If your kit is a 3-switch version but you only select to pay for 2 Gorva switches... well it just doesn't work.

One of the most hyped pedals ever. Don't get us wrong - it works really well, but get a grip guys!

Essentially a boutique version of Dan Armstrong's Green Ringer Octave-Up circuit feeding into a tweaked Rat with three-way clipping options into a MOSFET post-boost

As well as the standard Vol, Distortion and Filter controls you have an Octave Level pot to dial in just the right amount of high pitched fun.

We've subbed the hard-to-source FETs used in the in and out buffers as they make absolutely no difference to the tone. Supplied with OP07 IC. Our stash of vintage LM308 is gone.

Now then... options. We got lots of feedback before deciding on formats for this kit, so you have a lot to choose from. We designed the board for a neat and tidy 1590BB, twin footswitch format. This has all the functionality of the original pedal but in a pedalboard-friendly package. Around FuzzDog Towers, this is the one to go for.

We've added extra pads on the PCB so you can use a footswitch to take the octave-up element in and out. This requires a bigger enclosure to be practical, and we've go two big options for you. The 1590XX is 142 x 118mm, making the three footswitches fairly tight but useable in a real-world situation. The 1590DD is 184 x 116mm, giving you much more space for your sneaks to kick those switches. Both bigger sizes will require some off-board pot wiring, but no biggy. We'll supply all pots as round shaft, vertical mount (unless you specify standard splined shaft) so you'll need to bend the legs of those that are off-board.

These kits will be supplied with Lumberg jacks rather than Neutrik as they fit above the pots with more room to spare.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. In the larger box formats you'll still have to wire a couple.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components (depending on selected options), pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Death drive build review
"If you like your doomy/sludgy sounds this will be well worth building. Never used the original but the rat part, is a rat, the boost - is a boost and the Oct portion, I find is a good way to restore some of the highs, if you feel like deeply darkening the tone with the rat filter. I did run into problems with what I thought was an error I made by foolishly soldering on the wrong side of the daughterboards. I pressed on regardless because I thought it was just a mirror image if flipped. At the end there was direct continuity between v and gnd! I thought it's the daughter board issue just mentioned. Ordered replacement switches and daughterboards. Replaced same problem! So after removing v and gnd connections and reconnecting one by one looking for the offending continuity issue. I found that the issue was the pots pushing against the PCB causing the short circuit. I'm 80% sure this was the issue. Perhaps it was shorting against the enclosure? I dropped a bit of cardboard in between to isolate. Pedal working now. Just beware of this when mounting the PCB. It would be interesting to know fuzzdogs opinions about this? But yes, a good quality PCB and parts provided and I'm pleased with the end result. Lots of heavy tones at your disposal with this kit." Rjohn - 23 December 2023

Hi. Yes, it can be easy to short the board with the pots, but if soldering is neat and legs trimmed short there should be 3mm clearance. Unfortunately the plastic covers Alpha use on their pots don't comply with RoHS standards, so we can't supply them.
