Bad Mofo Bass Drive Mini

Mini version of our Bad Mofo drive. If you like a bigger box, go check that out.

Some special lovin' for all you low-end dirt junkies. The Bad Mofo bass overdrive preamp.

DRIVE and LEVEL pots give you control over the amount of dirt and volume. TREBLE is a low pass filter to cut your top end for just the right amount of fizz. Nothing groundbreaking there, but wait....

We have a four-way rotary switch to give you four completely different sounds. Silicon, Germanium and LED clipping are available, as well as clipping bypass for extra crunch and minimal clipping.

Top off those goodies with a very effective buffered BLEND control to dial in as much dry signal as you like.

The only bass dirtbox you need? Maybe. Be sure to take the path of the righteous.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

NOTE - this is a slightly fiddly build. Due to the height of the rotary switch the pot pins only just go through the PCB. No longer supplied with the 4562 op-amp as they're simply not available. 4558 supplied instead.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

1590B Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Headroom For Days, As Clean or Dirty as You Want
"This is by far my favorite overdrive, and it was super easy to build. It's a little finicky about input levels (I'm a synth nerd and run keys through a reamp box pre-pedals, so it'll probably be much easier to find the sweet spot when using the instruments it's actually made for) but the amount of low end OOMPH you can get out of this thing before it clips out is unbelievable. Plus with the treble knob up you don't lose any highs. Push it a little in any of the modes and you get really nice distortion, especially in LED and diode Bypass. I've always been fond of running overdrives into distortion pedals, but with this thing there's almost no point in doing that unless you want the signal completely filthy. Definitely a killer multipurpose pedal that I'll be buried with." Tommy Toe Tag - 10 April 2021
