Filth Fack! - Vertical config

Now available with silicon transistors in place of the usual germanium for a different flavour of fuzz and more temperature stability.

Take a Fuzz Face, mess around on the bench, add some pots and a sprinkling of crazy dust and you have this beast.

Classic, noisy five-knobbed fuzz box with stability, compression, gate, drive and volume controls. The fuzz comes from a pair of specially selected germanium cans which can produce tame, soothing fuzz tones or veer off into wild oscillations and gated madness with the twist of a knob or two.

Most builds have fiddly off-board pot wiring. This version of the kit has board-mounted pots for minimal wiring and easy enclosure mounting. If you want to do your own control layout or install in a guitar you should take a look at the wired pot version.

By popular demand this kit is now available in a vertical box format, while still having board mounted pots. Sweet!

Now includes optional FAT switch, for three-way frequency control. Stab pot position of Slightly Offset or Inline recommended if you're adding the switch.

Pot spacing is 17.5mm, so please take that into account when choosing knobs.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Fun Factory 5 product stars
"Another great kit from Fuzz Dog! It's hard not to grin when you play with this one because there's so many amazing sounds in it. My first attempt didn't work, but I got some good support from Fuzz Dog HQ and was able to track my dodgy solder joins down with an audio probe. I'm hooked on these kits from FD, just ordered two more!" Vance - 28 July 2019
Soooo much fun! 5 product stars
"Its pure madness! Fairly simple build, but it does so much. Once you get fiddling with it, you cant stop making delightful noise for hours. 6th Fuzzdog kit ive built, and probably the most entertaining." Ben C - 31 October 2018
So easy 5 product stars
"Making this extraordinary box of utter filth and annihilation is so ridiculously easy it ought to have a health warning stating how addictive these kits are. Once you pop, etc. This particular kit is easy even by Fuzzdog standards - how it does so much with such a low parts-count I don't know, but it's very effective." steve - 30 November 2017
What the Fack 5 product stars
"I could never afford to buy a pedal, and I'm handy with a soldering iron, needed something to start back up with. I still can't believe I made this crazy thing, it is seriously madness in a box, why would anyone let me do this! Stuck it together, plugged it into my amp, and accidentally blasted myself out of my seat when I turned it on after my preliminary sound check with bypass active, sure it could have been the 200 watt amp on a 15 inch cab doing most of the work, but this thing makes a powerful racket, and I still haven't figured out how to shut it up, great! Very simple circuit, a little tricky to build mechanically speaking, getting the pots in-line was a pain at first, had to bend a couple posts back into shape after I fumbled putting them in the box, and be really strict on the connection wire lengths on the soldered side of the board, a 1 CM wide strip of cardboard kept the 3 lower pots a nice distance away from them to avoid shorting, besides the tight spacing this build went off textbook. I almost wish I chose another build, but I recommend this layout if you (like myself): -Have big/clumsy feet and don't want to stomp your pots -need the vertical configuration to keep pedals uniform -want to distinguish your pedal Once you put everything in the box there really is not much space left, which I think is great! Very economical use of volume, that said it does make routing wires a fun little challenge and avoiding ruining your wires by burning the coating whilst shaking with anticipation was a real test for me. The knobs are very tightly packed, might consider putting smaller ones on but it looks great and suits my purpose. I will be ordering my next kit shortly! Maybe by the time I get my next one I will have figured out this loonacy" Dan - 18 May 2016
Facking lovely. 5 product stars
"A brilliant kit, the only things to look out for are to make sure you order the vertical mount pots, and be careful you don't leave the legs on the germanium transistors too long or they wont fit in the enclosure....once I fixed my initial self-induced cock-ups, this pedal came together like a dream! Or perhaps more appropriate for this fat 5-knobbed oscillating monster, a screaming, squealing, velcro nightmare." Ant - 12 May 2015
Great Fuzz 5 product stars
"I've built a number of Fuzzdog kits now and this one practically fell together. I bought the version with the Fat switch for my Bass rig and am loving the results. The Fat switch sorts out the low end nicely. Definitely my favourite bass fuss at the moment, though it sounds great with my Tele too. You can get some really mad oscillation noise going on with the stability turned down, control it with the volume knob on the guitar. Sounds utterly ridiculous in combination with other pedals that go into self oscillation, though getting the gain staging right between them can be a challenge. Easiest Fuzzdog kit I have made by far, very well designed indeed." Chris Haye - 21 March 2015
