Clock of Tone

Based on a COT50™ boost/OD box, but with some handy mods by Fred Briggs over at Revolution Deux.

As well as the single bias control of the original, there is an additional Nature control to go from full boost to Range Master-ish world. Slightly softer clipping than the original, and caps altered to make it all a little thicker round the edges.

We've added an optional Master Volume.

The circuit will take you from clean boost to light overdrive, and can crank enough juice out to really push an amp into new territory. Highly pick-responsive. A great addition to any set up.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Stackable Mayhem..inna box! 5 product stars
"Stateside here. Given the World's situation right now, this got here pretty quick! I have a COT50 Red to compare this with. Out of the box, with, and likely because of the Master Volume, this pedal is 3dB down in loudness from the LP. This pedal also seems to have a slow roll off filter in the bass. The combination gives less impact when engaged because the lower end is less. What does this mean? Stacking baby! This pedal into my Light Speed Overdrive is extraordinary. Set the LS to fat, barely there gain and add this to the front end. The variations available on this 3 knob job offers up a large tonal palette of distortion. Very useful tool." For a bit more brightness... 5 product stars
"After using this for a while I decided more brightness would be useful and some research revealed that C3 is the key... 47nf is the recommended value which is a nice warm tone, 33nf or 22nf sharpens everything up a lot, or no cap at all gives maximum brightness and gain. I had an on/off/on switch spare so I have 47nf/open/22nf on a toggle. Now my favourite overdrive pedal!" jayjay - 11 November 2019
Loving it 5 product stars
"This is a great little circuit, easy to build but compact, and results in a very usable o/d pedal. Might try a 5089 for more gain but as it is it sounds great with P90s through my Classic 20. The 3-knob mod on the original circuit really makes it." jayjay - 25 June 2019
CoT 5 product stars
"Its a nice boost, not loud but quite subtle, it just sweetens your guitar signal up a touch. The Texture adds a bit of grit and the Nature feels like a slight high pass filter, its not gonna turn it into a full treble booster but tightens the low end." MrG - 30 August 2018
great pedal, great support 5 product stars
"the pedal sounds great and fuzzdog's support is always faster than light! I've done many fuzzdog kits, all great kits. maybe the led-bezel could be better." giorgio - 22 October 2015
