War Pig - Black Sabbath in a Box

Sometimes the simplest set-ups yield the most sought-after tone, and it doesn't get much simpler than Tony Iommi's early Black Sabbath sound. A bunch of Laney Supergroup amps cranked to the max, fed by an always-on treble booster and his genre-defining riffs.

Well here's a little box of magic that'll give you a pretty good shove in the right direction to capture that tone through your own kit at any volume.

Hit your clean or slightly dirty channel with the War Pig and tune to perfection.

The circuit features a booster based around a Rangemaster, but adjustable to go from treble to full-range boost, followed by circuitry modelled on preamps of those classic Laneys. Tweak the Precense and Gain to get just where you want and adjust the volume until the neighbours stop banging.

Designed for vertical mount pots (which have round shafts), or you can wire up normal pots if you prefer.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is only available with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosure and vertical-mount pots. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Pure Iommi! 5 product stars
"Bought this entirely because of the name. Black Sabbath in a box....I could not say no! And it really does give a distinctly early Black Sabbath sound. Im using an ESP F50 guitar through a practice amp and I sound like Tony Iommi in 1971, its a dream come true! The build was fairly easy, I did it all in one go in about 3 hours. Used the ribbon cable, all nice n neat inside. I recommend using a DC filter in the circuit if you are using a standard 9v DC adapter as I am, otherwise you will get some background whine. All in all, the best homebuilt pedal I've done (and I've done about 12). Highly recommended!" Matt F - 03/12/2018

"Great build, really enjoyed it. Ribbon Cable and 3pdt daughter-board made it much neater and easier. Pedal Sounds amazing, exactly like the pedal it's based off for a fraction of the price." Dean Pryce - 16/02/2018
