Hot! Enlightened Drive

Dumble-in-a-Box? A mighty claim made by the designers of this boutique circuit. Decide for yourself it that's justified.

Smooth, medium-gain overdrive that will respond to your playing dynamics like it was sitting on your lap.

Debate around the innards of this pedal takes up a lot of interweb space, mainly on choice of op-amp and clipping diodes. Some originals used a AD712, some a common NE5532 - you can have either. You can try pretty much any 8-pin op-amp you like until you nail your perfect sound. Clipping is supplied as per original - 2N7000 FETs and BAT41 diodes.

The PCB is laid for vertical-mount pots, but you can wire in 'normal' pots. Note: if you select vertical-mount pots these have a round shaft, so take that into consideration when buying knobs - you'll need some that fit with a grub-screw.

Kit includes: PCB, all components, hook-up wire, 3PDT footswitch for true bypass, jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, LED. Enclosure (pre-drilled) is optional and will not take a battery. Does not include knobs.

Difficulty: Medium

PCB size: 50 x 40mm

Knobs required: 4

Enclosure: 1590B

Direct-Connect compatible (4- or 6-way)

If you want the kit pre-built you must add the enclosure option below and select your knobs in the Components section. Check Specials for powder-coated enclosure availability. Pre-built is only avaialable with vertical-mount pots.

Great kit. 5 product stars
"Great quality components, very well made pcb, great service (instructions are very easy to follow), perfect layout ... my first build ever went flawless and the pedal sounds amazing. Well done!" Maurizio V. - 21/05/2016
You need one of these. 5 product stars
"Blimey. As a touch sensitive overdrive this pedal is sublime. The gain is very sensitive to the output of the volume output of the guitar, vintage pickups give gentle OD, high output pups give a bit more, and the way you pick changes the tone/OD - complementing the character of the instrument rather than blanketing it with uniform dirt. Couple it with an other OD to get superb multi channel mayhem. I'm A/Bing this with a 'klon klone', and I'd have to say this is better. The kit was super simple to make, and arrived the afternoon after ordering." Anthony - 16/01/2014
