Pussy King - Hybrid Fuzz/Distortion

What do you get when you mash up a Tone Bender MkII and a Rat? The Pussy King of course.

Incredibly versatile beast that combines the sweet, silky smooth fuzz tones of the TB with the tight punch of the Rat.

With two different ways to control the gain - Input level and Gain - there are approximately five zillion different ways to make this pedal push your amp. The Filter control is straight from the Rat (though it works backwards - hey, don't shoot the messenger!), and expands the tonal range by another million or so good-time-units.

We've added a little extra functionality over the excellent original by adding an optional second set of clipping diodes and toggle switch, effectively doubling your fun.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Rat but more so
"An excellent and versatile distortion/fuzz - lots of Rat character still (and the diode selection option gets closer to a Turbo Rat sound). Increasing the input gain gives more compression, gain is more open - so lots of variety there. One warning, which should come as standard with Fuzzdog pedals - paint or decorate the enclosure before you build the kit, otherwise when you test the pedal you'll be in too much of a hurry to box it up and will end up with yet another grey box! The kit itself was excellent as usual, although the ribbon cable is maybe a bit longer than necessary for this circuit and actually gets in the way a bit." Ed - 08 April 2023

Superb!
"I've built a lot of pedals over the last 10 years or so, and this is the most versatile circuit I've come across. I'm a huge fan of the TB MK2, so the 'RAT' mashup piqued my curiosity. Any amount of distortion really is possible here - gritty overdrive, chunky distortion, through to gorgeous fuzz. The filter sweeps is useful in all but the most extreme positions, and adds a lot of control. The LED / Si clipping is again very useful - more gain with the standard diodes, more volume and less compression with the LEDs. This really is a brilliant box of gain." Ian - 01 November 2017

Tonnes of fun
"This is honestly my favourite pedal, its so much fun. It goes from pumped overdrive to all out fuzzy lead using the input volume and gain controls, then theres a whole other level with the Rat style tone pot. Loads of maneuverability to make it more transparent or thick'n'mental. Personally love playying Stooges with this one. Build was pretty easy and everything works great, can't recommend this enough!"
