Pitbull - Highly tweakable Silicon Tone Bender

Tone Benders. Gotta love them. But just like the Fuzz Face name lends itself to two vastly different beasts, so must the TB. It's the law.

We all know and love the germanium-based TBs, but there's always room for some silicon action, and here it is.

Mic Tester's original SiTB circuit is the raw material for this tweak-fetishist's dream, with some all-important controls placed externally. As well as your normal Vol, Gain and Tone you have complete control over how fat the input cap is, the bias, and there's an optional starve control. Starve and Bias? Isn't that a bit of an overkill? Nope. Try it - you just might like it.

Huge, fat fuzz or splattery, gated dying battery fun - it's all there.

The kit is supplied with vertical-mount pots which have round shafts, so you'll need set-screw fitting knobs. Spacing is tight (17.5mm apart), so you'll need small knobs.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and will not take a battery. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Great. 5 product stars
"It's a tone bender, of course it gets 5/5 I'm just gonna review the other 3 controls. Bias control is great and can make the fuzz gated at low levels - better for choppy rhythm, rather than filthy leads (just doesn't have that hard to describe breakup sound). The girth control is awesome, going from crispy to booming. Not fussed on the starve - just a monotone squeal when your not plucking with little control - the starve even sounds a tiny bit when the pedal is turned off, tbh no more than the average ground noise. The difficulty in building,? Same as any other pedal, no super tight spaces." Joe - 24 November 2023
Excellent! 5 product stars
"this website got me hooked on fuzz and building pedals, after trying MANY of them i think this is the one. the extra controls ensure that you have an incredible versatility at hand, going from vintage benders to high gain. i do suggest going for the voltage pot as it gives extra versatility. thanks Fuzzdog!" My new favourite fuzz 5 product stars
"A pretty easy build that went together quickly. This is a great sounding and very versatile fuzz. It has immediately become a favourite and my first choice when pedalboard space is limited." Vance - 12 September 2019
Great versatile fuzz, very well laid out, almost perfect! 4 product stars
"Well, I didn't know which Tone Bender was the best, and this one does it all! As with all the kits from Fuzz Dog, the PCB is terrific, and the component selection speeds up the process a great deal. (There was just a resistor with the wrong value, which was quickly solved with 0 02 at the local electronics shop). Everything else was ready to solder, and the painted and drilled Hammond box was spotless. The finished pedal looks flawless and sounds great. The "volts" knob is a nice addition. It allows the normal use of the pedal at full throttle, yet at lower supply voltages it enters the domain of lower levels of distortion and... oscillations! This one does some of the interesting sounds of the Fuzz Factory, which you can control with the guitar's tone and volume knobs. All this with a ton of usable fuzz and distortion tones. I couldn't have asked for more. Great design! The only drawback is that, if set to oscillate, the pedal will bleed the oscillation noise when in bypass. This may be a byproduct of the optical bypass, so I wouldn't advise anyone to get it, if you aim to use this for the crazy sounds." Manuel S - 09 July 2017
