Mosrite Fuzz Rite

Piercing, clanky, vintage goodness that'll cut through any band mush. Think Iron Butterfly.

If vintage clang doesn't do it for you, there's the option of going for Gus' Rite Fuzz - a thicker-sounding version which still gets pretty skanky but can be wound back for fuller fuzz tones.

The Depth pot has been fixed now, so you'll have thin, nasally fuzz CCW, thicker fuzz action CW.

We're now supply the kit with two sets of transistors and sockets. Lower gain BC337 and slightly higher gain 2N3904. See which you prefer.

Board-mounted pots for minimal wiring and easy enclosure mounting.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

Stooges Fun! 5 product stars
"Apparently the fuzzrite was what Ron Asheton used in the Stooges. This was an easy and quick build with maximum impact! Fuzzdog has changed the Puts to 500KA and 500KB so the fuzz is louder and more aggressive and includes sockets and 33&-16 and 3904 transistor pairs. He suggests the 337-16's in the build notes, but I found the 3904s have a more focused sound, truer to the Stooges experience. Oh I built the original Mossrite circuit, not the GusRite. I look forward to the FuzzPup version coming back in stock, and am curious about experimenting with other transistors." Ozzie Battla - 15 August 2021
Update to my previous review This thing can sing! 5 product stars
"I'm updating my previous review, since it turns out that was just half the story. My Fuzzrite went in for major surgery today: I've replaced the volume pot with a 500K and swapped the transistors once again. Both made a huge difference, and at this point the kit can hold its own against a boutiquey pedal with Japanese NOS Ge transistors I've acquired in the meantime. I got used to the other-way-round Depth knob pretty quickly so that's not a bother (after all, all the functionality's there, it's just reversed). If I were to order this again today, I'd ask FuzzDog to send me a 500K volume pot instead of the 50K one and I'd install sockets to begin with (or just put in my favourite transistors, but it required sockets to know which those are), because this circuit, to my ears at least, is _very_ finnicky about the transistors. A good pair can make the difference between loving and hating your Fuzzrite. So this can be the ultimate Fuzzrite (well, one of them), if you're willing to put in the time to audition transistors and maybe try a 500K Volume pot." Razvan - 22 May 2021
Good springboard to figure out if a Fuzzrite's for you 3 product stars
"Definitely a nice Fuzzrite, with a few caveats: 1. it would have been great if the volume pot would have been 500K instead of the 50K provided, in order to allow for more output from this below-unity-gain on some settings pedal - Catalinbread's Fuzzrite does use that, as well as many other clones; 2. the depth knob works in reverse, the original apparently used a reverse audio pot - either that or the PCB could be updated to work with a regular pot; 3. providing sockets for the transistors would be great, I ended up installing some in mine and opted for lower-gain transistors, the ones provided were 300 hFE (which sounded good, but were just not what I was looking for). Unfortunately to have the perfect Si Fuzzrite for me I'd have to unsolder and replace both pots, which is really not an option since they're PCB-mounted. However, again, these are just my preferences. Others may perhaps find their ideal Fuzzrite in this kit." Razvan Cojocaru - 17 April 2021
Great Kit! 5 product stars
"My first attempt at building an effects pedal, and it worked straight off the bat!....the only problems I had were when I didn't read the instructions properly, (tip, read through to the end BEFORE you start soldering....). The pedal itself is killer, fantastic cutting vintage fuzz tone, just what I was after!....and building it was great fun!! Many thanks Mr Poodle, I shall certainly be back!" Tom - 14 March 2014

"I'm a first timer and built this pedal In just over and hour and all I can say is WOW!!! This thing kicks some serious butt!" Dustyn - 18 October 2013
Amazing 5 product stars
"I cant thank you enough, this pedal nails the fuzz tone i had been looking for years!! A relatively easy build, very decent price and super fast shipping! I higly reccoment the fuzz-rite to anyone looking for a fuzz that will cut through any band mix!!" Dennis - 24 July 2013
Wow! (Fuzz Rite Circuit) 5 product stars
"So pleased with this kit. First attempt at putting this type of thing together and worked first time!! Easy to follow instructions and sounds awesome. I had previously purchased a pro 'boutique' clone of a Fuzzrite pedal and was really disappointed with it. This version kicks it into next week! Plenty of volume and much better fuzz sound. Will be back for more kits definitely." Simon - 23 March 2013
