Juicy Blue Dynamic Bass Overdrive

"First off, a few components were missing from this build. Nothing too difficult to find, but I had to make a run to the shop to complete the project. The reviews of this pedal on this site had me believing the pedal would be more versatile than I've found it. Reading about the original (Blueberry) on other forums, users have described the pedal as "muddy" and I agree. With the gain all the way down, volume at unity, and with the tone set as close to my original signal as possible, when the pedal is engaged, it sounds like someone put a pillow in front of my amp. The breakup is quite nice as the gain is increased, but the attack and articulation is missing. I could see how those who want more of a thumpy, low-end sound would dig this pedal. For those who want to hear the attack (pick players, slap) I wouldn't recommend this pedal. I ordered the boutique version, maybe the other version has what I am looking for." awkbinoc - 15 November 2019

Review update

"Wrote a review before and just wanted to update: Got it build, went for a gig where other bands where playing. (Copenhagen Marathon) And the other bass players and the sound guy (pro) came and mentioned how well they thought the bass sound was. Week later a music producer from China, who came to our practice space, straight away mentioned how well the bass sounded in our practice space (which is poor) and all that was on was this pedal. Boutique- perfect for a slight bit of grit and grunt!

"I suggested this pedal for you way back, when I wasn t aware of the fairly big difference between the Mad Professor version and the boutique BjFE. Finally got to building this. Fairly quick and simple build as always with your kits! Put together in the morning. Plugged in at night - WOW!! Perfect always on pedal. Low OD for my jazz bass, and since it is quite low od, the entire gain sweep is really useful! Nature control gives great control, and below 12, a nice fat bottom end! Had many od pedals and this is just what Ihave been looking for. Have had another brand w the same chip, which was very good on bass even though meant for guitar (Snarling Dog Blue Doo). Been looking for something with the same chip as it just seemed to have something I really like. This thing just excelled it by miles! Can t wait to play it again! Even the drummer commented positively on it, as he had noticed how good it sounded last night. Thanks a million!!" Poul - 09 May 2018

A fantastic Bass Overdrive

"This is quite a big build for a three knob Overdrive. It fits great into a standard enclosure. It's an awesome bass overdrive. It can handle gentle and dynamic right through to strong fuzz. The tilt control is amazing on bass, it cuts bass and boosts treble or vice versa in one touch from the control. A slight adjustment makes a big change. Red 3mm LED's are easily the best bass overdrive clipping source (which is what this uses) but the circuit isn't as dynamic as the candyman or the Joydrive (both work really well on bass). This pedal is great at full on fuzz, but it's worth playing with the lighter side of it too, especially with the tilt control (nature). If you are looking for a one stop bass overdrive, then this is worth serious consideration. A blue powder coated enclosure with cream knobs just looks right on this puppy!" Gareth Cooper - 29 May 2015
