Hype Fuzz / Destructor Drive

New version as of Sep 2023

Monstrously high-gain fuzz your thing? Look no further.

One kit - possibility of three fuzzes in one at the flick of a switch. How? The pedals these are based on were built in a very modular way, combining different boost sections and switching out a few components to make very different sounding devices. So, you can make one or all of the following on the same board at the same time!:

  • Hype Fuzz - from a bit of gritty gain right through to almost infinite sustain fuzz.
  • Destructor Drive - highly compressed, over-the-top driven fuzz that sounds so wrong its gotta be right.
  • Destructor Bass - As above with some low-pass filtering to take out some harmonic gubbins to make it more suitable for low work.

Up to you. Parts are provided for all three versions, you just need to decide on the appropriate switch if you want to make a combo. Keep it a simple two-knob affair with one circuit, add a SPDT ON-ON switch for two circuits, or a SPDT ON-OFF-ON for all three.

If you want to really mess things up you can add the optional Oscillation pot, which lifts the fuzzy goings-on from ground, sending your signal wild.

Board-mounted pots for minimal wiring and easy enclosure mounting.

If you want the PCB without parts there's a link for that at the bottom of the page.

Partial kit: PCB, all board-mounted components, pots.

Full kit: As above, plus footswitch and appropriate daughterboard/components for your selected bypass type (see Downloads section for details of those), jack sockets, DC socket, battery snap, hook-up wire, LED.

Enclosure (pre-drilled) is available as an option with full kits, and can take a battery if desired with footswitch positioned 22mm higher, closer to the controls. Knobs are not included.

Builds are only available with full kits including enclosures. Please choose appropriate knobs.

What the fuzz! 5 product stars
"I feel like I should revise that review below (wouldn't want to put anyone off). Well, lockdown brought fresh eyes and had another go at that pedal. Works absolutely perfectly as Fuzz dude intended. Was absolutely my fault. You have to jump A1-A2 which is written in the instructions somewhere to be fair :) cheers. All is good" Phil Wright - 22 December 2021
Get Hype 5 product stars
"Built the ON-ON version of the Hype/Destructor; a fun, relatively simple build even with the addition of the switch, these kits are set up to be as close to foolproof as they could be - provided you do things like check out the general FAQ guides, avail yourself of a way to identify component values if you're not good at that (I have a shockingly bad memory). Sounds great / horrible in all the best ways, a fuzz that can be tamed or get wild and hairy as you like.

Hype fuzz...with?? 3 product stars
"I'm no beginner and have made many many pedals including from fuzz dog here. Bought two, can't get either of them working....very strange. Most likely me though I guess if others are having success" Phil wright - 02 November 2020
Girthy! 5 product stars
"Built the version with all three. It is definitely thick, wooly, saturated fuzz. This one seems to be everyones favorite when I crank it on! Build was easy and quick. Excellent instructions as well!" Bill - 27 July 2017
